During the second half of 2021, T-Labs organised experimental activities, called T-Probes, meant to inspire the pilots with new perspectives and test new approaches of public space activation in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meanwhile<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T-Lab 4, focussing on <\/span><b>Urban design for sociality and wellbeing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, together with T-Lab 3, <\/span><b>Citizen-led Smartness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, implemented their T-Probe at Amsterdam Science Park (ASP), working on two challenges: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How can we renew our relationship with nature in urban environments? <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8216;How can we support the wellbeing of humans and non-humans in the<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> everyday digital world<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The probe consisted of the development of a participatory map and a collective \u201cecology of attention\u201d, testing the perception of those who experience the space in their everyday life.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, this event tested a concept of biodiversity education of ASP related to meanwhile uses and spaces, together with local actors.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier the year, in July 2021, we performed a first site survey and held a stakeholder dialogue to get a deeper insight into the area and define aims and activities of the probe. The specific itinerary is identified by T-Lab 4 and T-Lab 3 based on the site visit and the outcome of talks with local stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6819b88 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"6819b88\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*! elementor - v3.13.1 - 09-05-2023 *\/\n.elementor-widget-image{text-align:center}.elementor-widget-image a{display:inline-block}.elementor-widget-image a img[src$=\".svg\"]{width:48px}.elementor-widget-image img{vertical-align:middle;display:inline-block}<\/style>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/ASP_T-Probe_G3-\u00a9-SZSchmidtler-2021_8.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"Amsterdam Science Park T-Factor\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3706a8a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3706a8a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Emotional and perceptional maps<\/span><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da50d00 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"da50d00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four groups of local actors (students of RAvB, elementary school students from Amsterdam and workers of UvA and ASP) went on an interactive tour around ASP to discover its nature and detect their emotions while being in urban wilderness. During the activity they were disconnected from their mobile devices. For that, T-Lab 3 built the Data Nest, a data centre mockup, as a device to challenge tech ubiquity in urban landscapes. Participants had to leave their smartphones in the Data Nest as an entry ritual to the walk. At the end of the workshop, the installation helped explaining, how a data centre works. This additional exercise invited the participants to reflect on the false immateriality of our digital everyday and its impact on the environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T-Lab 4 provided different activities across six stations around the science park to discover awareness and sense of space, as well as visionary perspectives. The chosen method enabled participants to get in touch with each other and discuss what they are perceiving.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df33777 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"df33777\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/ASP-Probe3.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"Amsterdam Science Park T-Factor\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30046b17 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30046b17\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students, workers of ASP, young professionals and children went on a walk over the southern part of ASP for about 90 minutes, stopping at the different stations. At each stop, they were provided with <\/span><b>t<\/b><b>ools for heightened perception. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The selected activities stimulated different levels of interaction with the space and its perception. The participants were asked to note their and impressions and feelings regarding:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The relationship with urban nature (desired or imagined)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The perception of urban space (critical issues, ideas)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use of public open spaces (desired or already done)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The perception of natural space<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The perception of social relationships in space<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The notes were collected on specific cards that allowed station-related note-taking. After the workshops, these cards were transformed into emotional maps of the space. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like this, it was able to detect possible topics and locations of future temporary activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The probe was a way to generate awareness about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">datafication<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and ubiquity of tech, while collecting inputs for meanwhile experiences. The involving methodology and the distribution of situation-related knowledge helped a better understanding of the context between nature, wellbeing and a more aware use of technology.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-462b5f8e elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"462b5f8e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/ASP-Schmidtler.png\" title=\"\" alt=\"Amsterdam Science Park pilot\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-47d047e5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"47d047e5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/element_separate-02-e1600864355918.png\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-357de49 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"357de49\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Key Learnings<\/span><br \/><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-34e52c56 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"34e52c56\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professionals working at ASP as well as students discovered new places nearby their regular routes.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Young professionals reckoned the potential of ASP open spaces.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kids enjoyed the activities proposed in the stations by deploying their creativity, exploring non-human dimensions and inter-personal ties in public space.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The permaculture garden was elected as the favourite place, the place where most of the participants felt good.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The participants mentioned having reached a superior level of sensing and understanding of their environment thanks to the activity.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The participants proposed valuable ideas for possible meanwhile uses.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restorative areas and experiences of wellbeing that provide a pause from the digitalised everyday, would be extremely valuable for ASP users: the way they moved in some places reflected their natural behaviour towards nature, space and architecture, creating an improved awareness of themselves.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other beings in off-the-grid experiences form an antidote to anxiety and digital fatigue, enhance social bonds and foster more intensive interaction.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Understanding the environmental impact of \u201cthe internet\u201d through tangible examples and seeing a data centre in the first person was an eye-opener for some of the participants.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f97df37 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"f97df37\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/ASP-probe.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 30 youths rediscover sensations and nature on everyday routes Transformation Labs, T-labs in short, are the knowledge engines of the T-Factor project.
